The JHU/CSC After School Dance Program is designed to provide a safe alternative for Baltimore City Youth to spend time learning the art of dance, gaining experiences and ultimately enriching their lives. The program provides structure as well as an outlet for creativitiy that children need to grow and develop mentally and emotionally. We incorporate all types of theatrical dance, including ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, ballroom, and cultural dance. In addition to mental and emotional health, physical health is promoted through the athletic nature of dance itself, through the healthy snacks provided, and through health workshops. Additional workshops held throughout the year expose the students to different styles and techniques of dance while enabling them to learn about other cultures in order to create a comprehensive base for their dance education. Performances provide students with the opportunity to showcase their accomplishments while fostering a sense of community. It is our goal to serve the youth of Baltimore through the art of dance, and to ultimately develop a stronger sense of community and awareness between Baltimore and the Johns Hopkins University.
