Ready Set Design! is a program organized by the student ASME chapter at Johns Hopkins University that introduces middle school girls in the Baltimore, MD area to engineering through half-day, weekend sessions on the JHU campus. In these sessions we describe the field of engineering, give examples of the kind of work that engineers do, and have the girls perform small design projects organized around specific, socially relevant themes. We hope to stimulate an interest in engineering by emphasizing its creative aspects, while dispelling gender and other stereotypes attached to the engineering profession. |
